July 20, 2017 - The Detwiler Wildfire in Mariposa County began on Sunday afternoon at around 3:56 P.M. at Detwiler Road across from Hunters Valley Road about 2 miles east of Lake McClure. As of Wednesday evening the fire was at 48,000 acres with 7% containment.

Firefighters contended with continued hot and dry conditions. Temperatures ranged from 90-95 and humidity bottomed out in the 16-21 percent range. Winds were slope driven for much of the day, but became west-northwest later in the day. The fire is burning in drought stricken chaparral and in an area of severe tree mortality. Observed fire behavior consisted of short-range spotting and uphill runs. Damage assessment crews are on scene to evaluate and inspect the area. Power lines supplying power to Yosemite National Park continue to be threatened.

Update: 7:32 A.M.
The Detwiler Fire is burning in a mix of grassy-oaks, and brush. The fire is starting to burn into larger pockets of beetle killed trees, especially to the south and eastern areas of the fire. These areas will create additional spotting issues and a large dead component ready for consumption. We are in a persistent forecast and should see burning conditions similar to the last several days. The fire has, and can travel 4-6 miles a day to the south-east. Spotting up to a ½ mile.
