October 17, 2017 - District 2 School Board Member Jim Cupp passed away on September 14, 2017. At its meeting of October 12, 2017, the Governing Board followed Board Bylaw 9223 procedures for filling the vacancy by interviewing an applicant. After mariposa county unified school district logodeliberation, the Board took action to provisionally appoint Steve Bacus to fill the vacancy until the next regularly scheduled election for board member (November 2018).

Unless a petition calling for a special election pursuant to Education Code 5091 is filed in the Office of the County Superintendent of Schools within thirty (30) days of the provisional appointment, it shall become an effective appointment.
