January 17, 2018 - Film making, 3D printing, self-publishing and computer use are the topics of upcoming free workshops at the Mariposa Library. Registration is required for all workshops.

Kids from age 9 to 18 can flex their creative muscles learning to design 3D prints during a workshop on Saturday, January 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. University of Merced engineering student and private consultant Ethan Stobbe will teach the basics of a simple online CAD program that they can use at home to create objects that can then be transferred for printing on the Library’s printer. Participants can use their own laptops or borrow a Chromebook from the Library.

Mariposa County LibraryThe 3D printing workshops are part of the Library’s Green S.T.E.A.M. Makerspace project, which was funded in part by an LSTA grant from the State Library, and by Friends of the Mariposa Library and Sierra Telephone.

Teens are invited to learn the art and technique of film making in a Saturday workshop series beginning January 27 and continuing on February 10, February 24 and every Saturday in March from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

During this hands-on program, teens will learn how to:  write treatments, scripts and story boards; conduct interviews; properly and artfully use camera, lighting and sound equipment; and make their story sing with creative editing. All equipment will be provided.

The end result of the series will be the production of a short film for a community organization that will be shown at both local and regional venues.

This workshop is made possible through a grant from the Central Valley Community Foundation.

Computer classes for adults begin on Thursday, February 1 and will continue twice a month following a lecture/lab format. They are held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. The first class and lab will be an introduction to PC computers for beginners. Classes are taught by Jerry Wagner, owner of Red Tail Ridge Technical Services in Mariposa, and his staff. A limited number of Chromebooks are available for participants who do not have their own laptop.

Writers, artists and photographers who have dreamed about publishing their novel, memoir, poetry, or other work can learn how to self-publish using the SelfE and Pressbooks online resources available through the Library’s website during a workshop on Saturday, February 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
