August 15, 2018 - Wednesday Operations Map of the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County near Yosemite National Park.

Tuesday Evening Information:  96,606 acres and 87% containment

Planned Actions: 

On the east flank, continue to hold and improve fireline from Badger Pass to Elephant Rock in Divisions G and H.

The fire east of El Portal and north of Highway 140 is in patrol status.

Crews are patrolling the fireline along the line on FS Road 2S20 and on the 13 Ridge, while others are addressing the spot near DP9 by removing hazard trees along roads and containment lines, while monitoring and securing the area.

If future spots or slopovers occur, alternate and contingency lines and resources are in place and may be utilized. Firefighters will mop up to secure control lines.

Suppression repair continues all along containment lines.


Remarks:

Portions of Yosemite National Park remain closed until conditions approve.

The incident base for the Ferguson fire is at the Ahwahnee Hill Regional Park. Additional spike camp has been established at Badger Pass.

Operations being conducted under a joint delegation of authority from the Sierra and Stanislaus National Forests and Yosemite National Park.

1,254 acres on Merced-Mariposa Unit

65,460 acres on Sierra NF

18,892 acres on Stanislaus NF

11,000 acres on Yosemite NP


Weather Concerns:

Inversion lifted by 12 PM with clearing of smoke through the afternoon.

Highs ranged from lower 90s-100s below 3000 feet.

Afternoon cloud cover from thunderstorms well east of the fire moderated afternoon temperatures.

Minimum relative humidity dropped to 10-25%.

Forecasted tonight:

Inversion developing 8-10 PM with areas of smoke lingering in some valleys.

Northwesterly ridge winds may gust to 12 mph through the evening.

Downslope winds gust as high as 11 mph possible through 10 PM.

Lows will range from lower 60s to mid-70s. Overnight humidity will range from 25-45%, lowest along the mid-slopes in thermal belt regions and on exposed ridgetops.
