January 13, 2016 - Mariposa– Due to recent rain, increased relative humidity, higher fuel moisture, and the general improvement in predicted fire weather conditions, burn permits and other uses of open fire pursuant to CAL FIRESection 4423.1 of the Public Resources Code are no longer in effect.

CAL FIRE will lift the burn permit requirement for the State Responsibility Area within Mariposa County at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. Residents will be able to burn during both day and night.  Hazard reduction burning will only be allowed on permissive burn days.

Residents are reminded to use caution and have consideration for their neighbors while burning by observing the following requirements:
  • Burn only clean dry vegetative waste such as leaves, pine needles, and yard clippings.
  • Never burn on windy days. Use caution when burning as wind can cause fire to spread beyond the permitted pile.
  • Never burn trash, painted wood or other debris.
  • Property owners are responsible for maintaining control and proper extinguishment of hazard reduction burn piles, and for abiding by all Air Pollution Control District (APCD) guidelines.
  • Mariposa County APCD Permits are required for commercial and non-residential burning. Please contact Mariposa APCD at 209-966-2220 for permit requirements.

CAL FIRE reminds all citizens it is your responsibility to check burn day status by calling the Mariposa County Burn Day Information Line at 209-966-1200.
