April 30, 2016 - Mariposa- The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit (MMU) has announced effective at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016 all hazard reduction burning will require a permit in Mariposa County.
Permits are required year round in Madera County.
The following guidelines are required when conducting a hazard reduction burn:
· Property owners conducting hazard reduction burning are responsible for checking the burn day status. Madera County: 1-877-429-2876 Mariposa County 209-966-1200
· You must clear all flammable material and vegetation within 10 feet of the outer edge of the burn pile.
· Keep a water supply close to the burning site.
· An adult must be in attendance with a shovel until the fire is out.
· No burning shall be undertaken unless weather conditions (particularly wind) are such that burning can be considered safe.
· Remember NO household trash, processed wood or garbage can be burned
· Permits may be obtained at the nearest CAL FIRE or Madera County Fire Station.
