Mather Saddle and Pack Station
On Saturday, May 7th, 2016 Jay Barnes, Sharon Getchel and Twainhart Hill will share some of the colorful stories about the early days and adventures that took place at the Mather Saddle and Pack Station near Hetch Hetchy Dam.  Jay is the current operator of the station, taking over from his dad, Joe Barnes, who established the pack station in 1929.  Joe’s been chased — and licked — by bears; settled conflicts with “foot-burners” (hikers) and weathered the frequent ups and downs associated with government entities (he works with both the Dept. of the Interior and the US Park Service.) It’s a business he loves and it is a part of him, which is apparent when he talks about it.  Sharon and Twainhart, the ladies who developed the great presentation last year about the local stone fences, have helped Joe organize his personal photos and have put together an exciting visual presentation.

Then on Saturday, June 4th, Robert Oakley will share his research and knowledge about the Great Flood of 1862.  The flood, which occurred just 12 years after the California gold rush began, wiped out many mining camps and towns up and down the gold country.  This flood was an unprecedented natural calamity, destroying lives and property throughout California.

Both presentations are free.  The IOOF building, one of our best-preserved historic buildings in historic Coulterville is located at 5030 Main St.

Treat Mom to Breakfast Out on Mother’s Day!
Whether you see your mom daily or only on rare occasions, give her the day off this Mother’s Day and show her how much you love and appreciate her by taking her to the Coulterville History Center’s Mothers Day Breakfast on Sunday, May 8th.  Both our special Mother’s Day omelets and the traditional pancake and egg breakfast will be available.

A choice of mouth watering omelets…Strawberry, Cheese, Ham or Veggie… or a combo of any two of the latter three, complete with pancakes and fresh fruit costs just $7.50.  Eggs cooked to order, all-you-can-eat pancakes, ham or sausage and fruit are a great value at just $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children and $15.00 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 children).  The Old School House, at the corner of Cemetery St. and Broadway in Coulterville is easy to find, has ample parking and will be open from 8 to 11 a.m.  All moms will receive a flower to let them know how special they are.  There are terrific raffle prizes, so mom just might get something special!

New Member Brunch
On Saturday, May 21st, a champagne brunch will be held at the home of Tina Craig for potential new members of the Northern Mariposa County History Center.  Ms. Craig will be sharing the history of her charming residence, occupied by the Coulter and Gazzola families, while invited guests enjoy a delicious meal. Museum Board members will be on hand to discuss the many benefits of becoming a museum member. In addition, guests will be invited to tour her beautiful home.
