The $20.8 million eff ort will replace the bridge deck and retro fit the structure to provide an additional 40 years of service life, and is scheduled to begin in July 2016.
The meeting will discuss the work to be done on the bridge, the construction timeline and potential impacts on the community and its visitors.
The bridge, built in 1970, is 1,400 feet long and spans Don Pedro Reservoir. It’s a popular route for 4 million residents and visitors who annually enter Yosemite National Park – where iconic Half Dome rises 4,800 feet above the Yosemite Valley fl oor.
The purpose of the project includes providing a modern and safe bridge for vehicles and cyclists, reducing the need for frequent bridge deck repairs, upgrading bridge rails, and strengthening the structure to improve its ability to withstand an earthquake.
