At the 2013 VFW Memorial Day Ceremony held on Monday, May 27 at the Mariposa Cemetery many residents attended the event to honor our departed service members. After the parade from the VFW post at the corner of Highway 140 and Highway 49 North, James Mason, Post Commander Keith M. Bertken, Post 6042 said the opening comments for the ceremony at the cemetery.
 
Guest Speakers included Ms. Mika Petrucci representing Senator Tom Berryhill and Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, District 5 Mariposa Country Supervisor John Carrier and Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies. The Mariposa County High School Grizzly Band played the Armed Forces Salute, Midway March and others during the event.
 
 Wreaths were presented by the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors, Mariposa County Sheriff's Office, Mariposa Rotary Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, VFW Post 6042 Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 567, assorted Mariposa County 4-H groups, Boy Scout Troops and the Girl Scout Muir Trail Council.
 
 As the ceremony came to a close VFW Post Chaplain Chuck Kendall led the Benediction followed by the VFW Firing Squad with a Rifle Salute and Taps were played by Mr. Neil Stonum.
