May 16, 2017 - We would like to announce a new program specifically targeting high school STEM teachers and high school students in the Mariposa and Merced area: the Science and Technology Enrichment Program (STEP) for STEM High School Teachers/High School Students at the University of California, Merced, which is managed by the NSF-CREST Center for Cellular and Biomolecular Machines (CCBM). Application instructions are on the program website. We encourage you and/or your students to apply to STEP and will be available to meet with you at your school or by phone to discuss the program.

The EXTENDED application deadline is Friday, May 19, 2017.

STEP aims to recruit STEM teachers and high school students from Mariposa and Merced area high schools to engage in research in faculty labs and professional development in summer 2017. The orientation activities will occur from June 5-7, 2017. The research portion of the summer experience is flexible; it is expected that each teacher accepted into the program will spend 5 hours/day for 2 consecutive weeks on lab-related work (including time reviewing articles, meetings with research mentors, etc.). All participants will be expected to participate in the CCBM Open House in September 2017; the date/time is TBD, and the STEP portion will be outside of school hours in the late afternoon.

We will welcome ALL local high school STEM teachers and students to attend the CCBM Open House as well; if you have interest in bringing your students to the CCBM Open House in September 2017, please let Carrie Kouadio (ckouadio@ucmerced.edu) know.
