1:00 On Thursday, October 6, 2011 the Sheriff Department along with the Merced County Sheriff Department and the California Highway Patrol began a three day program to stop illegal Marijuana growing and transporting along the Highway 140 corridor and the lowlands of the county. Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies mentions the attempted car jacking that took place in Mariposa County on Bear Valley Road. 152 vehicles were checked with 94 vehicle stops resulting in 18 persons arrested in the county. The sheriff estimated the cost of this operation at two to three thousand dollars that will be paid for with Federal money from the DEA. The medicinal grow in Hornitos is mentioned by the Sheriff. Supervisor Lee Stetson wonders if the war on Marijuana is truly winnable as it continues to be an illegal crop.

Later in the day on another discussion about Marijuana the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors moved to ban Medical Marijuana Dispensaries and Collective and Cooperative Medical Marijuana Cultivation in the county.
