Park Advocates March and Rally at the Capitol to Save Our State Parks
Demonstration in Sacramento raises awareness about impending loss of public access to parks
On Tuesday, November 1, 2011 the march begins in front of Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park at N St. and 8th St. and ends on the north steps of the Capitol at L St. and 10th St., where the rally will take place.
The California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) and its Save Our State Parks Campaign partners will protest the closure of 70 state parks and raise awareness of the negative impacts park closures will have on California with a march and rally at the Capitol. Park advocates will gather in front of the Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park (one of the 70 state parks currently planned for closure) and walk approximately ½ mile to the Capitol where they will assemble for a short rally protesting park closures. Immediately afterwards they will deliver over 100 oversized postcards and thousands of petitions to the Governor’s office. Following the delivery to the Governor’s office, rally participants will attend the joint legislative hearing that is scheduled to be held at the Capitol by the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife and the Assembly Committee for Accountability & Administrative Review. This hearing will discuss the impacts and status of proposed state park closures and we anticipate there will be some time allocated by the committee for public comment.
