Mariposa Welcomes Back Storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston

On the second weekend of March, audiences at the Mariposa County Arts Council’s, 25^th Mariposa Storytelling Festival, will enthusiastically welcome back master storyteller, narrator and singer Charlotte Blake Alston, who will be making her third appearance at the Festival. With exuberant energy, Charlotte speaks stories in ways that beckon and hold you like being on an amusement park ride. Time is suspended as audiences soar with every word, song, rap, inflection, gesture or drum beat.

Her African and African American stories are often enhanced by the sounds of traditional instruments including djembe, berimbau, nkoning, mbira and the 21-stringed kora.  A former teacher, Charlotte skillfully adapts her presentations to   her audience, inviting active and joyful participation.  She has performed at festivals, universities and schools across our nation and around the world, including the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian, Carnegie Hall, the Women of the World Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, and a refugee camp in Senegal.  A favorite storyteller of storytellers around the world, Charlotte’s performance is one you will never forget.
