The veterans received cards from the students

November 13, 2015 - The annual Veterans Day Commemoration at the Mariposa Elementary School (MES) was held on Tuesday morning, November 10, 2015. Many veterans were on hand for the event and they received hand drawn cards from the students. 

Speaking at the commemoration were Chairman of the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors, Merlin Jones along with Christina Hall; Representing Tom McClintock, Shannon Major; Representing State Senator Tom Berryhill, Mika Petrucci; Representing State Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, Robin Hopper; MCUSD Superintendent and MES Superintendent Jared Pierce. Former U.S. Representative for Congressional District 19 from 1995-2011, Mr. George Radanovich was also a speaker at the event. 
 
The Mariposa County High School Band played several pieces including the "Armed Forces Salute" that provided the opportunity for the veterans to stand up when their selection for the branch of the service was played. 

During the flag raising the Mariposa County High School Choir sang the "Star Spangled Banner."  
 
Norene Schifflet, Sign Language Interpreter for MES led the students in "God Bless the USA" that had all the students up and singing. 
 
After the flag lowering and the three volley rifle salute, Neil Stonum played "Taps."
