2010 Mariposa Schools Butterfly Release By Linda Gast

The day was finally upon us for the school children to release their butterflies. There was excitement in the air as over twenty classrooms from the schools along with the pre-schools and home school children descended to the Mariposa Creek Walkway to release the butterflies that they had spent weeks raising.

Members of the Butterfly Festival Committee members were on hand to help with the release. Everything ran smoothly as class after class were signed in and went to their assigned areas for the release. The teachers checked in with Yvonne Sarazin, then were sent over to one of three tables. Shelly Dulcich, Dell Knell and Jeanetta Phillips were on hand to help each group. Donna came to help hand-out orange slices and help direct the flow of children. Charles Phillips was on hand as Official Photographer for the festival. Several other photographers were on hand as the release was a great photo opportunity.

Everyone had a great time as they watched the butterflies land on their orange slices...and sometimes their noses...then looked on as the butterflies flew away to the creek area where they where off to play and then lay their eggs. A goodtime was had by all.
