2010 'Little Miss Butterfly' & 'Captain Caterpillar' Costume Contest by Linda Gast
'Little Miss Butterfly' Layla Tanton
It was a beautiful sunny day on Saturday, April 24th, in Mariposa, California. It was especially nice weather for the 2010 'Little Miss Butterfly' & 'Captain Caterpillar' Costume Contest. It was held at the Mariposa County Park Amphitheater. The stage was beautifully decorated with a canopy of flowers and a backdrop of a butterfly quilt.
There was excitement in the air as ten beautiful young ladies competed for the title of 'Little Miss Butterfly', dressed as beautiful butterflies. There was every kind of butterfly from; a Ballerina Butterfly, a Flower Butterfly and even a Patriotic Butterfly. Two handsome young men dressed up as different versions of what they thought 'Captain Caterpillar' would look like. Ham dressed up as a cute Green and Orange Fuzzy Caterpillar and Michael-James dressed up as a 'Captain' of the 'Chrysalis Fire Department'.
The children each showed-off their costumes and performed a talent to the delight of the judges and crowd in attendance. Some of the children's talents included singing, dancing and even reciting poetry. The three judges had a really hard time choosing between the all the wonderfully costumed young contestants.

Makinna Dulcich, First Place for First through Third Grade
With Layla Tanton, winning the title of 'Little Miss Butterfly'
