Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona by Linda Gast

Pioneer-Yosemite-History-CenterThe Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona consists of historic structures from different eras of Yosemite history.  Originally constructed in different locations throughout Yosemite, they were moved to Wawona in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Covered Bridge over the South Fork of the Merced River makes a fitting entrance to the Village.  The bridge which was built in 1887 was destroyed by a flood in 1955 and restored in 1957 and again in 2003.   More history of the Covered Bridge  www.yosemite.ca.us/pioneer-yosemite-history-center/covered_bridge.html.

The Artist's Cabin is to the left as you enter the village.  The Cabin was built in Yosemite Valley around 1900 near Sentinel Bridge.  It was the home of artist Chris Jorgensen.  The waive window glass seems to be original.  The day I was there the cabin was not open so I took photos through the window.  The stage ride that takes visitors around the village gives it a very authentic feeling.

I am not going to try to go into the history of all the buildings.
