Update Sunday Morning, July 4, 2021:
Intruder Fatally Shot After Exchanging Gunfire with Homeowner in Modesto, California Identified as a Male, 41, from Turlock
July 3, 2021 - On Friday, July 2, 2021, deputies responded to the report of a person shot in the 4200 block of W. Service Road in Modesto. When deputies arrived to the scene, an unidentified adult
male was located inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
The Crimes Against Person unit, and members of the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
The preliminary investigation found the homeowner was alerted to a possible intruder and returned to the house. Armed with a firearm, the owner located the unknown male who was also armed with a firearm.
During their interaction, the two exchanged gunfire. The unidentified male suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, but it appears preliminarily the homeowner acted in self/defense.
