Officer-Involved Shooting in South Sacramento 

February 18, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Monday, February 16, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Central Patrol Division deputies observed a vehicle suspected to have been involved in a shooting the day prior. The vehicle was driving southbound on Elk Grove Florin Road in South Sacramento. Two deputies conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of Tiogawoods Drive and Elk Grove Florin Road when an officer involved shooting occurred. Both deputies fired their weapons, for a total of five rounds.

The suspect, an adult male, was struck by gunfire an unknown number of times. Both deputies were uninjured. Deputies on scene provided medical aid to the suspect while awaiting Sacramento Metro Fire. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital where he remains currently. The suspect’s handgun was located at the scene.

The investigation into this incident is still ongoing and will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice for any officer involved shooting that occurs in the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction. An independent review of the incident will be conducted by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. In accordance with the Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures, the deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
