Vehicle Pursuit in Spring Valley 

May 14, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Suppression Team was conducting proactive patrol in the area of 9400 Campo Road in Spring Valley. At about 1:46 p.m., deputies observed 29-year-old Jonclaude Smith driving a vehicle in the area. Deputies were aware that Smith had several outstanding felony warrants for his arrest and was a person of interest in several criminal investigations.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle Smith was driving however, Smith failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. Smith led deputies on a 56-mile nearly hour-long pursuit requiring assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies. With the assistance of ASTREA, deputies tracked Smith until he yielded near Deer Springs Road and south Interstate 15.

Smith was taken into custody and arrested for felony evading and several felony warrants. Smith was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
