Battery Arrest 

May 17, 2026 – Monterey Police Department officials report that on May 14, 2026, at approximately 8:42 P.M., Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to an in-progress fight at the Golden State Theatre, 417 Alvarado Street. When officers arrived, the parties involved had separated and were leaving the area. Officers detained one group of individuals involved in the fight and began interviewing witnesses.

Officers determined that prior to the fight, a comedy show was performing at the theater. At one point during the show, a group of individuals became disruptive and was asked to leave. The group refused to leave, and a physical altercation occurred between the group and event security staff. One member of the group punched an event staff member. Security then removed the group from the business as police arrived.

Based on statements from the involved parties, officers arrested one subject for 242 PC — battery. After the initial investigation, the MPD received a video recording of the altercation inside the theater. The MPD is continuing to investigate the incident.
