August 7, 2026 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are asking for the public’s assistance as investigators continue to investigate the death of an infant whose body was discovered alongside a roadway in north Monterey County.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on August 1, 2026, fire personnel, emergency medical services, and Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of the 100 block of Struve Road after receiving a report of an infant that had been found alongside the roadway. Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed the infant was deceased.

Since that time, detectives have been actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. As part of this investigation, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is releasing photographs of a beige 2010 Mercury Milan four-door sedan bearing California license plate 6HCR883. The vehicle has since been located and recovered by investigators. At this time, detectives are seeking to speak with anyone who may have seen this vehicle or its occupants on Saturday, August 1st or Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, particularly in the area of Struve Road and the surrounding communities, to include the City of Salinas. We also wish to speak to anyone who may have dash camera, surveillance, or other video footage that may assist investigators.
