Travis Bodle, 56, has been sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder 
for killing his 77-year-old mother, Vicki Bodle, in their Jamul home in January 2024.
Vicki suffered from Parkinson’s disease and required caregiving assistance. After she was attacked by her son, her caregiver discovered what had happened and immediately reported it to law enforcement.
Her story is a reminder that speaking up matters. If you care for an older adult, regularly check in, stay alert to changes in their well-being and don’t ignore concerns about their safety. If something doesn’t seem right, report it and seek help.
