October 5, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that detectives from the Los Angeles Police Report Investigation Opened into In-Custody ...Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division, West Bureau Section, announce the arrest of the suspect responsible for the murder of the Culver CityBus driver.

On October 1, 2026, at around 5:12 p.m., Pacific Division officers responded to a radio call for an “ambulance shooting” in a Culver CityBus stopped in the 3900 block of Centinela Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located the victim unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the bus. They determined he had been shot. Officers administered first aid until LAFD paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division, West Bureau Section, detectives responded and investigated the murder. Through their investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 55-year-old Jose Zayas.

On October 2, 2026, at 2:07 p.m., the LAPD’s GND FBI Task Force assisted with the investigation and took Jose Zayas into custody without incident in the 3600 block of Motor Avenue. He was booked for murder (Booking Number 7332500). Zayas’ bail is set at $3,000,000.

Early next week, the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
