October 13, 2026 – Yuba City Police Department officials report that on October 8, 2026, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), with assistance from the Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team and the Yuba City Police Department, served a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Payne Court in Yuba City. The operation targeted 42-year-old Raymundo Mesa of Arbuckle, a wanted felon believed to be in possession of firearms.

Mesa had been wanted for more than six months on an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of Colusa County involving the possession of multiple firearms, including a machine gun and suppressor. Mesa had previously evaded several attempts by law enforcement to arrest him, fleeing both in vehicles and on foot.

As SWAT personnel arrived at the residence, Mesa immediately fled out the back, jumped multiple fences, and entered a nearby vacant home. Officers quickly established a perimeter around the residence and obtained an additional warrant to locate and apprehend Mesa.

Over the next several hours, SWAT personnel made repeated announcements ordering Mesa to surrender. Despite the use of diversionary devices, chemical agents, and a police K9, Mesa continued to conceal himself inside the residence. The standoff eventually came to an end when Mesa fell through the ceiling from his hiding spot in the attic and was taken into custody.

During a search of the vacant residence, officers located a loaded Glock 20 10mm handgun and a cellular phone that had been discarded inside.

Mesa was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment for minor injuries before being booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, resisting or obstructing officers, and his outstanding felony arrest warrant.

Mesa's original warrant carried a $50,000 bail. Following his arrest, SIU investigators requested a bail enhancement, which was approved by a Sutter County Superior Court judge. Mesa is now being held without bail.

Great teamwork by the Special Investigations Unit, Yuba-Sutter Regional SWAT Team, Yuba City Police Department, and all personnel involved in bringing this wanted felon into custody!
