August 12, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Thursday.
Fire: The Dixie Fire is now 510,227 acres, an increase of 9,219 acres with 30% Contained. Conditions are aligning for an unstable atmosphere in the fire area and potential large fire growth. Operations on the fire are looking good with major operations on the northwest and eastern portion of the fire.
Smoke: Similar surface conditions compared to yesterday exist within the immediate fire area. The wildcard is potential thunderstorm activity. Smoke is hanging close to the ground and not being moved out of the area. Valley locations should see at least the same or possible improving air quality. Mountain locations will be similar to yesterday with some improvement south of the fire area. Thunderstorms may dissipate the smoke close to the thunderstorm.
Health and Safety:
Keep Your Home Airtight. You might be tempted to open the windows and let the air filter through your home, but this is a fast way to lower the quality of your indoor air. This is especially true if you’re located in or near (100 miles or less) a burning wildfire. To stay safe, keep your windows shut and limit the number of times you have to open or close outside access doors. https://homeairguides.com
