I would like to encourage the voters in District III to elect Kris Casto as our supervisor. There has been an overwhelming amount of support regarding her experience and accomplishments, both in government and as a local business owner, but I would like to point out her not so publicized but persistent devotion to the protection of our rural lifestyle and our agriculture industry.

Over the last 10 or so years, I have had the opportunity to see Kris in action as a strong advocate of our agricultural community. In an effort to preserve our local agriculture, she co-organized the Mariposa Agri-Nature Trails and “Weekend in the Country” events, in which we had the privilege to participate.

During the general plan update and zoning amendments, Kris was actively involved in her effort to protect our Ag Industry. She testified at the hearings that land development regulations should respect the diversity of rural lifestyles and that the scenic view should be protected. When the Board of Supervisors had a hearing on placing a moratorium on the Williamson Act, Kris spoke against the moratorium stating that she felt the loss of the Williamson Act would be a loss of agriculture, open space, water quality, water resources, history and heritage for all residents of Mariposa County.

Kris participated in Agriculture Advisory Committee meetings and was a member of the Agriculture Nature Tourism Advisory Committee. She was president and member of the Mariposa Community Foundation and involved with numerous other committees and organizations including Mariposa Fine Art and Wine Festival, Mariposa Rotary Club, Local Agency Formation Commission, Foothills Mediation Center, Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce and the Catheys Valley Friends of the Library to name a few.

She is already working for us in the agricultural community, let’s help her to continue. Join me in voting for Kris Casto.
