September 24, 2018 - The High Sierra Ranger District just completed a basic tree climbing workshop. Tree climbing is a highly specialized skill that takes practice—practice under the guidance of an experienced and competent s3instructor/s, or certified climber/s. Thanks to the US Forest Service's Redding Smokejumpers we were fortunate enough to have instructors come down to lead this specialized workshop.

The Forest Service Tree Climbing Program provides guidance designed to protect Forest Service employees while ascending, descending, and working aloft in trees. By establishing national direction based on recognized industry standards, procedures and practices.

Climbing and working in trees demands specialized equipment and skills. At the end of this workshop the district gained 8 new trainee climbers to add to their cadre of current Sierra National Forest climbers.
