December 9, 2018 - SACRAMENTO — State Controller Betty T. Yee has updated her Government Compensation in California website to include 2017 self-reported data for K-12 education betty t. yee california state controlleremployers, including public school districts, charter schools, and county offices of education – a total of nearly 413,000 positions and almost $16.28 billion in wages. 

While cities, counties, and special districts are required to report salary and benefits data to the State Controller, K-12 education employers are voluntary reporters. The State Controller’s Office requested data from 1,931 K-12 education employers and 527 filed reports. Of those reports, 440 were complete. More than three-quarters of K-12 education employers did not file the requested reports or they provided incomplete information.


As the chief fiscal officer of California, Controller Yee is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state’s financial resources. The Controller also safeguards many types of property until claimed by the rightful owners, and has independent auditing authority over government agencies that spend state funds. She is a member of numerous financing authorities, and fiscal and financial oversight entities including the Franchise Tax Board. She also serves on the boards for the nation’s two largest public pension funds. Elected in 2014, Controller Yee is the tenth woman elected to a statewide office in California’s history.
