Modesto Man Killed During Altercation 

December 10, 2024 – Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on December 7, 2024, at about 10:31 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the M&S Market on the 1100 block of Pelton Ave. in Modesto. Upon arrival, deputies located a 24-year-old Hispanic male with a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment. The victim was shot during a physical altercation between several subjects, two of which were employees of the liquor store. During the physical altercation, one of the employees, a 28-year-old Middle Eastern male, took out a gun, and at least one shot was fired. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased at about 4:44 a.m. this morning.

During the investigation, it was discovered that an unserved civil harassment restraining order was issued on November 14, 2024, in which the liquor store employee was the protected party and the victim was the restrained party. Furthermore, there is a no-trespass letter on file that prohibits loitering in or around the establishment.

The Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating this incident in coordination with the District Attorney's Office. The District Attorney's Office will receive all evidence related to the investigation for charging purposes.
