May 12, 2026 – CAL FIRE Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit (MMU) is proud to welcome back 54 seasonal firefighters to the Castle Fire Center as we continue preparing for the 2026 fire season.
Over the past week, these firefighters completed a rigorous 5-day academy focused on wildland and structural firefighting training, comprehensive physical fitness routines, and operational readiness. During the academy, firefighters also had the opportunity to speak with both Unit Chief Chris Trindade and Deputy Chief of Operations Justin Macomb about professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the fire service.
These dedicated firefighters play a critical role in protecting the communities of Madera, Mariposa, and Merced counties through wildfire response, emergency incidents, public service, and fire prevention efforts.
As temperatures rise and fire danger increases across California, our personnel are training and preparing to serve the public with professionalism, dedication, and readiness. Please join us in welcoming back our seasonal firefighters and thanking them for their commitment to keeping our communities safe this fire season.
