May 29, 2026 – Sonora Police Department officials report that on May 23, 2026, at 4:16 p.m. the department received a Be On Sonora PD felony arrestThe Lookout for a possible carjacking of a silver Toyota Tacoma with a flat tire. The carjacking occurred in the Mehun parking lot in downtown Sonora. The victim, who knew the male, had their car keys forcefully taken by the male, later identified as Clinton Lawrence. The victim told Lawrence he could not take the vehicle and then sat in the passenger seat while Lawrence drove away. Lawrence refused to let the victim go and forcefully held the victim’s head down on the center console causing injury. Fortunately, the victim was able to get out of the vehicle. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office later located the victim on Lime Kiln Road, just south of South Washington Street. CHP later located the vehicle and Clinton Lawrence, who was subsequently arrested.

Lawrence was booked into the Tuolumne County jail for Carjacking, Kidnapping, and Felony Battery.
