June 2, 2026 - California Medical Association (CMA) President and pediatrician René Bravo, M.D., issued the following statement on Monday in response to President Donald trump 2025Trump’s Executive Order directing the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to alter the nation’s childhood vaccine schedule:

The recent Executive Order targeting our national childhood immunization schedule is a reckless intervention into established public health policy. The administration's push to alter vaccine recommendations lacks a scientific basis and runs the risk of undermining trust in vaccines at a time when preventable diseases such as measles are re-emerging across the country. Forcing an unwarranted pivot away from our current schedule is unsupported by credible evidence and creates unnecessary confusion and risk for families.

CMA wants to assure California families and physicians that California continues to have families and children’s best interests in mind. Regardless of federal policy shifts, insurance plans regulated under state law will continue to cover the full spectrum of immunizations recommended by the California Department of Public Health, which follows the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendations. CMA stands resolute with California's pediatricians, and we urge families to continue following the trusted advice of their children's doctors.”
