June 15, 2026 – Yosemite National Park officials remind visitors to take care of yourself during high temperatures when visiting the park.

The sun is out, and so is the heat! Stay cool, stay hydrated, and don’t forget the sunscreen.

At the height of summer, temperatures in Yosemite National Park can reach 100°F, especially in Yosemite Valley. Keep your trip chill with some heatwave hacks:

  • Listen to your body. The first signs of heat exhaustion include fatigue, dizziness, nausea, fainting, and confusion. Speak up if you are feeling unwell and remember to check on loved ones and pets. Call 911 in an emergency.
  • Yosemite Valley and Hetch Hetchy Reservoir have some of the most sun exposure and experience some of the warmest temperatures in the park. During the hottest times of day, visit cooler, higher-elevation parts of the park, like Tioga Road and Glacier Point instead.
  • Yosemite has many hikes with extreme elevation changes over short distances. Hike during cooler parts of the day (morning or evening) and take plenty of breaks in shaded areas.
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink water even if you don’t feel thirsty, and pack plenty for hikes. Water stations are located throughout the park for refilling bottles.
  • Rebuild electrolytes lost while sweating by eating salty snacks regularly. Trail mix and other electrolyte-heavy foods are available for purchase at markets throughout the park.
  • Don’t forget your hat and shades and reapply sunblock every two hours. Try a sun hoodie instead of a tank top for extra protection against both sun and bugs.
