Detectives Make Arrests in 2019 Fowler Homicide 

June 24, 2026 – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office officials report that detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (ViCAT) have arrested 26-year-old Celeste Aguirre of Clovis and 29-year-old Juan Cervantes Jr. of Clovis.  Both are currently in the Fresno County Jail facing charges of murder.

Around 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, a school bus driver was travelling on his route along E. Springfield Avenue, outside the city of Fowler, when he noticed a body on the side of the road.  He made a report to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and deputies were dispatched to the intersection of E. Springfield and S. Claremont Avenues.  Deputies located a man with an apparent gunshot wound who was dead.  The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Jose Vasquez of Selma.

Homicide detectives leading the investigation eventually developed information that Aguirre and Cervantes Jr. were responsible for the murder.  Warrants for their arrests were obtained and executed.
