June 24, 2026 – Merced County Sheriff's Office officials report that on the evening of June 16, 2026, Merced County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at Winton Community Park, located at 7155 Olive Avenue in Winton. Deputies located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately rendered life-saving medical aid. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. As a result of the investigation, 18-year-old Andres Madrigal Haro was arrested on June 17, 2026, and booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of attempted murder and gang-related offenses related to this incident. On Tuesday, Sheriff's Detectives arrested a second suspect, 19-year-old Alberto Cervantes, in the 12900 block of Highway 140 in Livingston. Cervantes was also booked into the Merced County Jail on attempted murder and gang-related charges.

Based on the investigation to date, detectives believe there are no outstanding suspects or an ongoing threat to the public related to this incident. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Investigators believe additional individuals were at the park during the shooting and may have information that could assist the investigation.
