August 3, 2026 – San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they have recovered the 17-year-old who reportedly went underwater while rafting at Caswell State Park and did not resurface.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Search efforts began immediately and continued until nightfall before resuming Sunday morning. Shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, the Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit located and recovered the victim. Throughout the search, the Boating Safety Unit was assisted by Patrol’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Team and Ripon Fire personnel.

Our hearts are with the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss. We extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time.

We appreciate the patience, understanding, and support shown by our community as our personnel worked tirelessly to bring answers to the victim’s family.

The incident remains under investigation.
