August 14, 2026 – Clovis Police Department officials report that two suspects are in custody as of Thursday morning following a family disturbance and shooting in Clovis Wednesday night. On August 12, 2026, at 7:43 P.M., Clovis Police responded to a home in the 300 block of West Ashcroft after receiving several 911 calls regarding a shooting. Officers arrived to find an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body, and both suspects gone. As information was relayed to our Real-Time Information Center (RTIC), both suspects were identified, and officers began searching for them as Detectives and CSI were called out to investigate the circumstances of the shooting. Officers also recovered the handgun used in the shooting.

On Thursday morning, Detectives arrested both suspects without incident. The shooting suspect was identified as a 15-year-old male teenager from Fresno. He was booked into Fresno County’s Juvenile Justice Center for several felonies including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and domestic violence. The second suspect was arrested and identified as 21-year-old Mayra Contreras of Fresno. Contreras was booked into Fresno County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.

Our investigation discovered that the shooting occurred during a family disturbance after the 15-year-old suspect came to the home with a handgun and tried stealing money from his ex-girlfriend. During the physical disturbance, the suspect shot the adult male victim. The female suspect also pistol whipped an adult female with the same handgun before both suspects left in her car. This morning, the 15-year-old suspect’s mother called the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office to report her son had been shot in the wrist. It was discovered that during the disturbance, the suspect accidentally shot himself when he shot the victim. Both victims received medical care and are recovering. The shooting suspect was also treated for his gunshot wound.
