A Hero’s Homecoming for Fallen Helicopter Pilot 

August 17, 2026 – Tulare County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Friday, the TCSO was proud to be part of a procession honoring a local hero, Porterville native Miles Elliott.

Miles, a 50-year-old helicopter pilot and longtime Extra-Help Firefighter with Tulare County Fire, was killed in a helicopter crash while supporting firefighting operations on the Widemouth 2 Fire in Utah.

TCSO joined law enforcement and fire agencies from across the county to escort Miles home, alongside his family, friends and community.

We honor his service, sacrifice and dedication to others.

Rest in peace, Miles.
