Wrong-Way Attempt Ends in DUI Arrest
August 18, 2026 – Madera CHP officials report that on Sunday, August 16, 2026, just before 7:30 p.m., CHP Madera officers responded to reports of a vehicle attempting to enter northbound SR-99 in the wrong direction from the Avenue 20½ off-ramp.
Before entering the main line of the freeway, the driver veered off the roadway and became high-centered on the shoulder.
Officers contacted the driver, a 31-year-old Chowchilla woman, and conducted a DUI investigation. She was determined to be three times over the legal alcohol limit. She was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail.
