Modesto Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision 

October 11, 2026 – Modesto Police Department officials report that on Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 8:49 p.m., Modesto Police officers responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in the 1100 block of Coffee Road. Two female juveniles were struck while crossing the roadway. Officers who were nearby at Downey High School arrived first and began CPR until medical personnel took over.

Both juveniles were transported to local hospitals. One later succumbed to her injuries; the other remains hospitalized in critical condition. The families have been notified.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the vehicle was driving south on Coffee Road and struck the pedestrians as they were in a crosswalk in the roadway. The details of how the collision occurred are still under investigation. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluation found no signs of impairment.

Investigators are continuing to review the scene and seek potential surveillance videos. The investigation remains ongoing.
