October 11, 2026 – Modesto Police Department officials report that on October 8, 2026, at approximately 8:54 a.m., Modesto Police officers responded to the area of Encina Avenue and Fortuna Avenue after a vehicle crashed into a home.

The vehicle was occupied by two adult women and a 12-year-old child. All three were transported to area hospitals. First responders searching the damaged home located a woman beneath debris inside the residence. She lived at the home and was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. She was identified as Kathleen Erickson, 67.

Based on preliminary information and eyewitness accounts, it appears the driver experienced a medical emergency immediately before the collision, causing the vehicle to crash into the home. Investigators have not identified evidence of alcohol or drug impairment at this time.

The collision remains under investigation. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances, including whether any criminal charges may apply.
