Burn Ban is Still in Effect
October 14, 2026 – CAL FIRE officials remind everyone to stay firesafe even with cooler weather.
Cooler temperatures and a few light showers might make it feel like burn season, but it isn’t here yet. Debris
burning is still prohibited in the State Responsibility Areas (SRA) of Madera, Mariposa, and Merced counties.
A light sprinkle only dampens the surface. Grasses dry out again within hours, and heavier brush and timber are still very dry after a long summer. One escaped debris pile can still become a wildfire.
Please hold off on burning yard debris. Consider chipping, composting, or green-waste disposal.
Thank you for helping keep our communities safe!
