Carrier Dist 5District 5 Supervisor John Carrier has announced that he will seek a second term on the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors.  For the past three and a half years, Supervisor Carrier has been a reliable, skillful, and effective problem solver who continues to work to meet the needs of the residents of both District 5, and Mariposa County.  Carrier has remained dedicated and steadfast in his work to better both District 5 and Mariposa County.

“I want to continue my job as Supervisor so that I can continue to listen to the citizens, stakeholders, and Department Heads in Mariposa County, and then identify goals so that I can create pathways to successfully achieve those goals in the most efficient and timely manner possible” Carrier stated when asked why he had chosen to run for a second term.

Carrier is not only the current chair of Mariposa County Board of Supervisors, he also serves as chair to various committees and agencies, as well as Board Liaison to several county departments, including the Sheriffs Department, Fire Protection, and Human Resources.

While serving as Chair of the Board of Supervisors, and as a Board Liaison to the County Sheriff’s Department, it has been stated that the relationship between the Sheriff’s Department and the Board is the best that it has been in several years.  Committed to communication and collaboration, Supervisor Carrier worked with the Sheriff’s Department to reorganize and restructure the fire department within the county in order to ensure that it is more efficient, effective, and valuable to the public.  In addition, Carrier was involved in finding solutions to better facilitate the construction of fire houses around the County.

As well, throughout his first term, Supervisor Carrier has served as Liaison to Yosemite National Park, and has worked to foster a beneficial and productive relationship between the Park and the County.  “In my opinion, the relationship between the Park and the County is the best that it has been in the 20 years that I have lived in Mariposa County” Carrier stated.

Working with Human Resources, Carrier was involved in the recruitment and hiring of five new County Department Heads, and worked to revise and streamline the personnel policies within the county.  He diligently worked on several policies, including the Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, Catastrophic Leave Bank, Reference Check Policy, and Employer-Employee Relations Policy.  His commitment, dedication, and work on these policies, as well as others, has helped to ensure that the most efficient and effective services are available and provided to the public.

Collaborating with the Clerk of the Board, Carrier assisted in creating a Board Chairperson handbook in order to help future chairs facilitate effective and efficient meetings through consensus building with the other Supervisors, ensuring goals can be successfully achieved and met in an appropriate and expedient manner.

Carrier 2016When asked about his role as a Supervisor during his first term, Supervisor Carrier stated that “my job as a Supervisor is to listen, and then work to establish goals, set objectives, and formulate a work plan to make certain that effective pathways are created to successfully achieve the goals and meet the objectives”.  Throughout his first term, Carrier regularly attended the Fish Camp Town Planning Advisory Committee meeting, the Fish Camp Fire Rescue meeting, Wawona Town Planning Advisory Committee meeting, Wawona Area Property Owners Association Meeting, Yosemite-Wawona Elementary Charter School Barbeque and Silent Auction, as well as all Chowchilla Women’s Group functions, Lush Meadows HOA meetings, and Men’s Coffee Club meetings.

While campaigning for his first term election, Carrier learned of the condition of the Valley View bridge in a private subdivision within District 5.  Upon his election to his first term in office, one of Carrier’s first projects was working closely with Matt Carpenter of Valley View HOA, and Mariposa County Department of Public Works, to work towards replacing the bridge in order to ensure, and enhance, the safety for the residents within the subdivision.  His diligence and collaboration resulted in the bridge recently being replaced.  Carrier has, and will be, committed to the needs of the residents of District 5.

Supervisor Carrier has, and will continue to, monitor progress of the Mariposa County Staff Development Review Committee in regards to the Silver Tip Lodge Resort and Tenaya Cabin Project.  He will also be introducing a solution to the committee to resolve the issue of ambulance housing within the community of Wawona.

“I continue to run on the same platform I stated when I ran for my first term, a platform of leadership, fiscal management, and public safety.  The past three and a half years have been insightful, challenging, and rewarding, and I am determined to continue to serve the needs of all residents of District 5, and to better Mariposa County in the future.  I am glad to have had the opportunity to serve the needs of District 5 during my first term, and will strive to continue to do so in the future.”
