September 5, 2021 -  The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Dixie Fire for Sunday.

Fire: The Dixie Fire is 885,954 acres, an increase of 7,898 acres since yesterday, with 56% Containment. Warming temperatures through the weekend and and low relative humidity will lead to continued fire activity across the entire fire incident. In addition, interior pockets of the fire continue to burn and produce smoke. The Dixie Fire is being managed in two cooperative zones - West and East.

Smoke: Today - winds will continue to come from the west to southwest over the fire area, generally sending smoke to the east. These winds will still be lighter and the atmosphere still stable leading to smoke not being able to lift and move smoke out of the forecast area till the midafternoon. In addition, these winds will bring smoke over the escarpment and into the Highway 395 corridor. Chester and Susanville will see smoke trapped in the valleys until the afternoon hours with smoke coming back overnight leading to USG to Unhealthy conditions. In Burney, Old Station and Portola, smoke should clear throughout the day, but may return overnight as smoke settles into valleys. With continued westerly winds, the Sacramento Valley will see less smoke today from the Dixie Fire and will have Moderate air quality conditions today but may see smoke overnight from NW California fires.
