September 6, 2021 - The US Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program Smoke Outlook for the Caldor Fire for Monday.
Special Statement: WASHOE COUNTY Health District Upgrades Stage 1 Air Quality Emergency Episode to a Stage 2.
Fire: 215,400 acres, 44% contained. Another day of great progress restoring infrastructure, bolstering the containment lines, and securing the active edge in the Meyer and South Lake areas. Additional repopulation in the western portions of the fire. Expect interior stump holes, large debris, and snags to continue smoldering in areas previously burned.
Smoke: Communities along the HWY 50 corridor can expect to see Hazardous smoke conditions from Placerville to South Lake Tahoe again today. Expect to see and smell heavy smoke in these areas until noon, when increasing west winds start to push the impacts towards Carson City, Reno, and Minden. Auburn, Lincoln, and Roseville will start the day with higher levels than the past few days due to the additional smoke from new fire activity in those areas. Conditions will improve in these areas by late morning. Communities to the north of Lake Tahoe can expect to see USG to Unhealthy levels of smoke throughout the day as light winds predicted today will provide short windows of relief. Carson City, Minden, Sparks, and Reno can expect to see the arrival of increased smoke in the late afternoon. South of the fire area will see light smoke this morning, clearing in the early afternoon.
Health and Safety: Take it easier during smoky times to reduce how much smoke you inhale. If it looks or smells smoky outside, avoid strenuous activities such as mowing the lawn or going for a run. Reduce Your Exposure
