September 7, 2018 - Returning to Coulterville half a century after heading to the big city to participate in this year’s CoyoteFest Parade and Car Show (Saturday, September 22) is an automobile that some locals might remember from their ‘teens… a ’56 Chevy Bel Air convertible that now sports the name “Honey Bee.”

James Etter, who purchased the car for $750 back in high school in the ‘60s, virtually grew up in Coulterville at his Uncle Walt’s ranch on Granite Springs Road. Per Etter, “Every kid on the hill, including Jerry Elmore, Karen Fielding, Trudy & Judy Keller, Judy Richards and Lyle Turpin, survived some wild rides on Hwy 49…” in this now famous “star” of a car!
During the past half century, the complete restoration of this classic car by Chip Foose was featured on a one-hour segment of the OVERHAULIN’ television show in 2009, an episode that has subsequently aired more than 800 times. Now sporting a gold and black paint job, the car (as well as Jim) has appeared in TV shows and movies including a Billy Bob Thornton show, Goliath, and a soon to be released movie, BACKSEAT, a biographical drama about Dick Cheney.
The car, which resides near the Leno Collection in Burbank, will be part of a 14-member entourage including Jim and his son Daniel…who will be entering his own ’69 “Matching Number Factory Stocker” Camaro. The team will “stage” the Foose Chevy for photo ops and be giving away DVD clips of the OVERHAULIN’ show and posters while they last.
Per Nina Mimnaugh, the chairperson of the CoyoteFest Car Show “around 75 cars are expected, with registrations arriving daily and more expected the day of the show.”
