.SYNOPSIS...
Expect some showers and a few thunderstorms over the mountain and
desert areas as a weak disturbance passes southward across
Central California. Temperatures will remain well above seasonal
values through the end of the week. Another low pressure system
will bring cooler temperatures and more mountain and desert
precipitation chances by the start of next week,

.DISCUSSION...
Temperatures across central California continue to run around 10
degrees above seasonal averages under the influence of a Pacific
ridge of high pressure. A weak shortwave trough dropping south
over the state will have little effect on temperatures but is
expected to trigger more showers along with a few thunderstorms
over our mountain and desert areas today. Amounts will be
generally light, with maximum probabilities of receiving 1/10 of
an inch or more running around 20 percent at some higher
elevation Sierra locations. Snow levels will be around 10000 ft
and accumulations will be no more than an inch or so.

A developing low pressure center will remain near southern
California while upper level high pressure builds off the
northern California coast. We will see little change in
temperatures in this pattern with little chance for precipitation.

By Sunday, an approaching low pressure trough will weaken the
ridge and help to kick out the low pressure center. This will
bring cooler temperatures and increase chances for mountain and
desert precipitation. Afternoon highs will be closer to normal
values at the start of next week. By Sunday, probabilities of
high temperatures of 82 degrees or lower in the San Joaquin Valley
are around 40 to 50 percent.

thunderstorms over mountain and desert areas between 18Z Monday
and 03Z Tuesday. VFR conditions will otherwise prevail over Central
California for at least the next 24 hours.
