October 12, 2022 - CALIFORNIA - On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) announced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has granted over $210 million to assist local California economies recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding was made possible by the American Rescue Plan, which Padilla voted to pass and President Biden signed into law in 2021.

“I cast one of my first votes in the Senate proudly for the American Rescue Plan to bolster the health of our communities and ensure the resiliency of our local economies,” Senator Padilla said. “Over the past year, the U.S. EDA has invested an additional $210 million in grants awarded directly to projects across California to help rebuild local economies that have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. This federal funding is supporting projects that will help train Californians for good-paying careers, expand small businesses, promote tourism, and stimulate private investments in our communities.”

The majority of the projects in California were awarded through EDA’s American Rescue Plan Economic Adjustment Assistance program. The program helps hundreds of communities across the nation plan, build, innovate, and put people back to work through construction or non-construction projects designed to meet local needs.

Several projects were also funded by EDA’s Travel, Tourism & Outdoor Recreation program to help the communities that have been hit hardest by challenges facing the travel, tourism, and outdoor recreation sectors invest in infrastructure, workforce, or other projects to support the recovery and economic resilience of the community in the future.
