October 26, 2022 - Three new large fires were reported in Kentucky. Nationally, 25 large fires and complexes have burned 278,194 acres in nine states. About 2,200 wildland firefighters are assigned to incidents. Three Type 2 incident management teams are supporting large fires in the West.
Winds and low relative humidity will create elevated fire weather conditions in parts of the Ohio Valley and Plains. Rain and some snow is expected in parts of the Northwest, Great Basin and Rocky Mountain areas. Visit the Predictive Services website for more information about current weather conditions and listen to the weekly fuels and fire danger podcast.
A fast-moving storm will push through the Great Basin into the central Rockies, bringing breezy west winds along with valley rain and mountain snow. Snow levels are expected to be near 4,000 feet in Idaho to 6,000 feet in Utah and the West Slope. As the system moves through the Great Basin, light but dry north winds are likely to develop across portions of northern California in the afternoon, with light offshore flow beginning overnight across the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges of southern California. A cold front in the Appalachians will continue to weaken as it moves off the East Coast with numerous showers across the Great Lakes into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. However, little if any rain is forecast with the front across the Southeast, with the best chance of rain across north Florida into southeast Georgia.
